I left the house
I am a degenerate
BJ -$290 Please can I never play blackjack again in my life.
In other news, I left the house for the first time in almost a week. That's impressive five full days without leaving our property. Now I'm back in Madison ready to rock. Looking for a young lady to entertain the idea on liking the HP.

Wow!!! Being sober for a week actually helps someone play better poker? Who knew. After taking a week off from getting drunk, I had my best week in poker in a long time. I was successful in nearly every cash session, and final tabled a tournament. If only I had the discipline to continue to limit my drinking. It appears I only will have a few more sober days before I get back on the wagon(or off?) since I have big plans to get rocked this weekend at the badger football game and country concert. It is pretty boring staying in for a weekend. The following weekend is at East Lancing for the Badger game, the weekend after in the cities for the Packer game, and New Orleans looms shortly after that. Each of those weekends guarantees to be a shit show. Hopefully in the next few days I can grind out a few more thousand so I can comfortably afford these trips. At the least I know that if I focus and put the hours in I can make a nice chunk of money playing poker. Playing poker optimally for 40 hours a week is a lot harder than it sounds.

The Blog is Back
After a few month hiatus the Highplaya is back updating his blog. I am back on my fall/winter work schedule which means I am playing more poker(10pm-4am) Monday thru Wednesday, and getting wasted Thursday-Saturday. Maybe I'll try to limit the drinking but that seems like a stretch. I am actually going to try to keep this blog updated with my poker sessions and how I am doing. So as an overview you will read about how I am really not that good and just luckbox myself to a cash out here and there.

News and Notes over the past four months
It has been a while since I last posted so I feel it's necessary I update my avid blog readers of the happenings in HP's life.
I've been to the strip club three times in the last four weeks. If strip clubs were a baseball farm system the Vegas strip clubs would be the major league team. They are top of the line in all aspects. Chubby's would be "A" ball. There is some talent but none are polished yet. Some have the look but not the attitude, some have the attitude but not the look. Some just don't have the experience. Club Bristol in Sun Prairie would be a poor Home Talent team. Some are past their prime, others never had a prime. But what they don't have in talent they make up for in effort.
Although the levels of play vary, I enjoy going to any ball game; the same can be said for a strip club.
On an expense note I cleaned out a large portion of my bank account to purchase my new vehicle this spring. I bought a use Cadillac CTS, obviously straight cash.
The high school baseball season is over and I don't understand what is wrong with some of the youth today. Some kids are so spoiled and have no concept of team. On a positive note our team won conference at one point winning 7 straight conference games. I expected this at the start of the year.
On a ridiculous note four seniors thought it would be ok to miss the practice before regional finals because a group was skipping school and going to the brewers game. I am shocked any athlete could think this is a good idea. As it turned out two did not go to the game, while the other two did they came back in time for most of the practice. So they infuriated their coaches and teammates for 5 innings of a brewers game at the end of May. No surprise we lost the regional final game. Those four are quite the senior leaders.
On a positive note I enjoyed coaching a lot. Also my brother and cousin had very nice seasons. My brother hit third and played shortstop and pitcher. As I expected he went from the third or fourth pitcher to start the year and ended up as the number one. He had two great outings on the season where he pitched a 3 hitter against the top team in the conference and a 4 hit shutout at Green Bay Preble. He also hit a solid 350 as a sophomore.
My cousin a junior rightfielder hit cleanup most of the season and showed flashes of power with 3 HRs including a 7th inning GS to take the lead against a rival. This home run was at least a 400 foot shot.
The legion season starts in two weeks, and hopefully we can build on the HS season especially without the senior distractions.
Although I have not played a lot of poker this spring, my cash play is back on track, and hopefully I can make a nice run in the next three weeks to possibly make a late June Vegas/WSOP run.
Finally, I love summer. Baseball everyday, sleep as late as I want, drink 3+ nights a week, beer tents, country concerts, girls in skirts and bikinis, that is living the good life.

Retirement near?
Currently I feel as if I am on my last leg. It has now been a month on losing and it is just getting brutal. It is very difficult to say poker is my job when I continue to lose thousands at it. That seems like an awfully expensive job. The problem is I have no interest at getting up at six in the morning and doing a traditional job at this point, which would be substitute teaching. So with that in mind I need to figure my shit out. At this juncture I refuse to substitute teach. Now I just need to figure out how to win at poker again. Poker is so brutal. I can win for three months straight and now I've lost for over a month straight. It is time for things to turn around. The only way to do that is a slump buster. Does anyone know an interested "lady?"

Vacation Days
After losing the equivalent of a used car over the past month I've decided to use a few more of my vacation days and pursue another hobby of mine....getting seriously drunk. I accomplished this last night and plan on accomplishing it tonight and tomorrow night. There is no doubt I will be too hungover to play on Sunday; therefore I may reserect my poker career next Monday. Unless I find a reason to drink that night, which could happen. Cocktails!

The HP/Great One Poker Invite
This past weekend consisted of heavy drinking, poker, and a lot of recovery time. The highlight of the weekend was seeing Diehl twirl a girl of the dance floor. To simply describe this girl, she was the opposite of skinny. The funniest part of this ordeal was that this dance appeared to fulfill this woman's lifetime fantasy. But that does bring up the obvious question of "What girl doesn't dream of being twirled around the dance floor by diehl?"
The second highlight I suppose is myself winning the 24 person poker tournament in Phil Hellmuthian style, as I cooked bbq for the first hour of the tourney. I went on to easily win this tourney making me rethink my odds of five to one in this tourney.
Overall very good weekend. Nice to see some old friends and meet some new people while playing a game of quarters. Its now time to lose an online tourney I'm deep in. Obviously my ak goes down to ace 10. I hate poker tourneys.

The struggle
The hand posted below sums up my sessions yesterday. On a couple occasions players trying to bluff hit gut shots on my made hands. This is frustrating but just variance I will get through. I will in the long run take these players money and be back running like I am used to. I need to focus on playing solid poker and not go on tilt chasing my money back. Chasing my money back has been a slight problem lately as I get my money in in marginal spots trying to win big pots. I also sometimes will see more flops hoping to hit a monster, which can lead to getting coolered such as flopping a low set vs. a high set which equals no stack for me. I'm going to work hard these next three days to regain my confidence and replenish my bankroll.

Leading Off
Today I create the first blog of what will likely be an uninteresting compilation of events and stories in my life as an online poker player, heavy drinker, and Wisconsin sports lover. I have been on a downward spiral of losing money both playing poker and at bars. This blog will help me reflect on poker wins and losses and on idiotic performances of myself and my friends.
